يروي الفيلم قصة عائلة ميشلوتشي، من السبعينيات وحتى يومنا هذا: الشخصية الرئيسية هي آنا الجميلة بشكل مذهل، الأم النشيطة والسطحية وأحيانا المحرجة لبرونو وفاليريا. تبدأ كل الأحداث في صيف عام 1971، في مسابقة الجمال الصيفية السنوية التي تقام في أشهر أماكن الاستحمام في ليفورنو. تتوج آنا بشكل غير متوقع بلقب "أجمل أم"، مما يثير غيرة زوجها العنيفة دون قصد. منذ ذلك الحين، تعود الفوضى إلى العائلة، وبالنسبة لآنا وبرونو وأخته فاليريا، فإنها بداية لمغامرة ستنتهي بعد ثلاثين عاما فقط.
