U 28. stoljeću, Valerian i Laureline su posebni operativci zaduženi za održavanje reda širom ljudskih teritorija. Po zadatku ministra odbrane, njih dvoje kreću na misiju u Alfu, stalno rastući metropolu gdje su se vrste iz cijelog svemira vekovima okupljale da dijele znanje, inteligenciju i kulture.
