Vedle nejrůznějších anket o nejlepší film všech dob existují samozřejmě i žebříčky opačné. Prakticky ve všech zaujímá čelné místo Plán 9 z vesmíru (1958). Jeho tvůrce Edward D. Wood, Jr. (1924-1978) vyprodukoval v průběhu padesátých let několik celovečerních filmů, jež díky neskrývanému amatérismu všech zúčastněných složek rychle zmizely z povrchu zemského. Ovšem ne navždy. Po své smrti (na selhání srdce následkem dlouholetého alkoholismu) byl nadšený filmař znovuobjeven filmovými nadšenci, hledajícími zapomenuté kuriozity, jako "nejhorší režisér všech dob" a v roce 1994 se dokonce stal předmětem životopisného filmu Ed Wood, jejž natočil Tim Burton s Johnnym Deppem v titulní úloze.
