Básník Attilio (Roberto Benigni) je lektorem na univerzitě v Římě a prá-vě publikoval sbírku svých prací nazvanou "Tygr a sníh". Bezmezně miluje kritičku Vittorii (Nicoletta Braschi). Prakticky žije jen pro ni, dvoří se jí, pronásleduje ji na kaž-dém kroku a každou noc o ní sní. Vittorie si ho příliš nevšímá, jeho snažení přechází se shovívavým úsměvem a jen zřídka přijímá jeho neustálá pozvání. V roce 2003 odjíždí Vittoria do Bagdádu udělat rozhovor s iráckým básníkem Fuadem (Jean Reno). Během bombardování je zraněna a upadá do kómatu. Attilio neváhá ani minutu, vydává se za ní, rozhodnutý udělat cokoliv, aby svou milovanou zachránil. Snaží se pro ni zajistit lepší lékařskou péči, získat léky tam, kde není možné dostat ani aspirin, projde skrz minová pole, přejde poušť... Z obyčejného básníka se tak stává odvážný hrdina, který pro život své lásky dokáže udělat nemožné…
