Osamělý čtyřicetiletý farmář Elia je nepříliš milé povahy a jeho vztah k ženám též není zrovna ukázkový. I přesto miluje vše živé, šlapání vína a život na vesnici. Jedné bouřlivé noci musí proti své vůli ubytovat krásnou Lizu Silvestri, jejíž auto se porouchalo, když projížděla kolem jeho sídla. Znechucená arogancí a nesnášenlivostí svého hostitele se Liza jej rozhodne zkrotit. Hledá jednu záminku za druhou, aby mohla zůstat co nejdéle. Pro městskou rozmazlenou dívku není vesnice to pravé, ale dělá vše pro to, aby Eliu okouzlila.
