Na anglické městečko Midwich zapůsobí tajemné silové pole, které způsobí, že všichni v dosahu jeho účinku usnou. Každá žena v produktivním věku poté otěhotní, včetně dospívajících dívek a žen, jejichž muži nebyli v té době přítomni.
