Příběh šíleného sochaře Henryho Jarroda, který pro svoji kolekci voskových podobizen neváhá vraždit, byl na filmovém plátně pod jménem Dům voskových figurín představen v roce 1952 - jako remake hororu Tajemství panoptika (1933, Mystery of the Wax Museum; r. Michael Curtiz) , jenž vznikl podle divadelní hry Charlese Beldena. V hlavní roli zazářil americký herec Vincent Price, který získanou popularitu využil v řadě dalších obdobných rolí (mj. v u nás známé verzi Jámy a kyvadla z roku 1960) . Epizodní postavu hluchoněmého Igora vytvořil Charles Bronson, v titulcích uvedený ještě pod svým původním jménem Charles Buchinsky. Všemu velel tvůrce maďarského původu Andre de Toth, který měl jen jedno oko, a proto nemohl nikdy své dílo vidět v původní plastické podobě. Nutno ovšem dodat, že Dům voskových figurín patří i ve své dvojrozměrné verzi k nadprůměrným ukázkám hororového žánru a ani po letech neztratil nic ze svých kvalit.
