Za Stalinovy éry bylo v Moskvě vybudováno přísně tajné „Metro 2“ pro usnadnění činnosti a pohybu vysoce postavených členů a agentů KGB. Jde o systém podzemních chodeb, údajně ještě rozsáhlejších než moskevské metro. Antropolog Sergej (Rade Serbedzija), zabývající se jeho výzkumem, záhadně zmizel. Owen (Vincent Gallo) vede záchranný tým a objevuje děsivou síť jeskyní a katakomb, skrývajících ještě děsivější pověsti o démonických bytostech žijících v podzemí města. Tým musí vyslechnout ty, se kterými se Sergej naposledy setkal - zoufalé existence, jež si vybraly život pod městem a jejich vůdce Andreje (Val Kilmer).
