Film vypravuje příběh pozoruhodného vztahu mezi jedenáctiletou Tildou a jejím dědečkem Amandusem. Dědeček však má Alzheimerovu chorobu a je čím dál tím víc zapomnětlivý. Nejen, že nemůže žít ve své domácnosti, ale jak se ukáže, ani v domácnosti svého syna. Je stále více zřejmé, že bude nutné umístit ho do nějakého ústavu. S tím se však Tilda nechce smířit. Chce dědečkovi splnit jeho velké přání – podívat se ještě jednou v životě do Benátek. Proto se s ním tajně na tuto chaotickou cestu vypraví.
