Mitsumasa Kido objeví v Himálaji tajemné dítě, které si adoptuje jako svou vnučku. O 16 let později je Saori Kido mladá dívka sužovaná svými tajemnými schopnostmi. Seiya ji zachrání před vrahem, který ji má zabít. Saori se pak dozvídá, že je reinkarnací bohyně Athény, přičemž Seiya je jednou z jejích svatých, kteří přísahali, že ji budou chránit.
