Pátý film bratrů Marxových Kachní polévka (1933) patří k vrcholným dílům komediálního žánru. Sourozenecká čtveřice se tentokrát pustila do rozkladu politických kruhů. Groucho Marx představuje Rufuse T. Fireflye, novopečeného diktátora z fiktivního státu Freedonie. Jeho jmenování do funkce si vynutila bohatá vdova paní Teasdaleová (Margaret Dumontová), která na oplátku věnuje do státního rozpočtu dost peněz na to, aby zachránila zemi před krachem. Hned na inaugurační slavnosti urazí Firefly diplomata Trentina (Louis Calhern), velvyslance sousední Sylvanie. Ten zase kuje pikle, aby se Fireflye zbavil a ovládl Freedonii. Mimo jiné najme svůdnou zpěvačku Veru Marcalovou (Raquel Torresová), aby prezidenta oblouznila, a především svérázné kumpány Chicoliniho (Chico Marx) a Pinkyho (Harpo Marx), aby Fireflye špehovali. A jelikož pro diktátora ani pro oba povedené špiony není nic svaté, situace nutně vede k válce…
