Uprchl před konfliktem na Srí Lance, ale válka si ho našla na předměstí Paříže. Dheepan je bojovník za nezávislost, Tamilský tygr. Když se občanská válka na Srí Lance blíží ke konci a porážka se zdá být neodvratná, uprchne do Paříže, kde začíná psát novou kapitolu života jako správce domu na předměstí. Iluzi, že dokáže uniknout konfliktům a vybudovat rodinu, ale záhy rozbije násilí, které je ve velkoměstě na denním pořádku. Tamilský tygr tak znovu musí použít své válečnické instinkty, aby ochránil to, na čem mu záleží.
