Šestnáctiletá Junie změní střední školu v průběhu školního roku po smrti její matky. Přichází do nové třídy, do které chodí její bratranec Mathias. Ten se stává jejím prostředníkem v skupině jeho kamarádů. O Junie se začnou rychle zajímat kluci ze skupiny, ona si vybere nejtiššího z nich, Otta. Ale brzo je konfrontována s velkou láskou jejího učitele italštiny, Nemourse. Vášeň, která se mezi nimi zrodí, je odsouzena na zánik. Junie, která nechce podlehnout svým citům, tvrdošíjně odmítá štěstí, které je v jejích očích pouhou iluzí.
