Reportér Goro nalezne během plavby na své lodi na první pohled opuštěné a především dost poškozené rybářské plavidlo. Při jeho průzkumu nejenže nalezne jediného přeživšího člena posádky mladíka Hiroshiho, ale je následně napaden obřím mořským parazitem. Po návratu na pevninu Hiroshi začne vyšetřovatelům vyprávět, jak na jejich loď zaútočila Gojira, kterou považovala veřejnost za mrtvou. Vláda se snaží vše ututlat, ale jen do doby než je zničena ruská ponorka. Na nátlak ruské i americké strany nakonec premiér Mitamura musí jít s pravdou ven a co víc, je okamžitě potřeba Gojiru zničit, jinak Rusové proti ní použijí své atomové zbraně. Dopomoci by k tomu mohla nová „superzbraň“ SUPER X…
