Tolik let již uplynulo od smrti kruté vražedkyně Milady De Winterové, která tak osudovým způsobem zasáhla do života mušketýra d'Artagnana i celé Francie. Píše se rok 1649 a na scéně se objevuje její neméně zkažená a zlá dcera Justine. Přestože život postavil kdysi nerozlučné přátele na různé strany barikády, Gaskoněc d'Artagnan se je pokouší dát dohromady, aby je přemluvil k poslednímu dobrodružství. Což se mu samozřejmě podaří, a tak se stárnoucí mušketýři vydávají zachránit královnu Annu před intrikami Justiny a nepříliš počestného kardinála Mazarina, který nastoupil na místo jejich bývalého tradičního nepřítele kardinála Richelieua. Poměrně přehlednou situaci však poněkud zkomplikuje Athosův adoptovaný syn Raoul a jeho vášeň pro Justinu.
