V šokujícím psychologickém thrilleru natočeném na základě nechvalně známého stanfordského vězeňského experimentu si zahráli oscaroví herci Adrien Brody a Forest Whitaker. Tým vědců provádí dvoutýdenní psychologický experiment, kterého se účastní čtyřiadvacet dobrovolníků. Pravidla jsou jednoduchá: některým ze zúčastněných bude přidělena role dozorců a ostatní budou vězni. Ačkoli jsou bachaři jasně poučeni, že musejí udržet pořádek mezi vězni bez použití násilí, po vypuknutí vzpoury mezi trestanci jdou jakákoli pravidla stranou. Čím více se muži vžívají do svých rolí, tím více se o slovo hlásí moc, strach a celý experiment se dostává absolutně mimo kontrolu…
