Mistrovi školy bojových umění zachrání život jeho sluha, ale sám při tom položí svůj život. Mistr se z díků ujme jeho syna Fang Ganga a vezme si ho za učně. Fang trénuje společně s učni s bohatých rodin, ale ti nemohou snést, že mistr se k Fang zpráva velmi přívětivě, ajkeď pochází z rodiny sluhů. Fang se proto rozhodne, že lepší bude když odejde. Nespokojení učni ho však vyprovokují k boji a Fang, bránící se pouze holýma rukama ve snaze nezranit, přijde o pravou ruku. Tak začíná příběh o muži, který se neskorôr stane slavným jednoruký šermířem.
