V dobách vlády Mandžů bylo v Číně hodně pracujících lidí ve svízelné pracovní situaci. Jejich podmínky vůči pracujícím byly zdrcující, zaměstnanci odváděli velmi vysoké procento z platu přímo vlastníkovi továrny, ten tak chtěl zvýšit jejich výkonnost. V jednom městě v továrně na barvení se dělníci dohodli, že těchto ústrků již bylo dost. Najali si tedy jednoho mladého herce, aby zosobnil duchovního a experta na kung-fu z chrámu Shaolinu. Majitelé továrny však podvod odhalili a přislíbili trest každému, kdo s tím měl co do činění. Mladý herec cítí zodpovědnost za problémy, které nastanou dělníkům a přislíbí odvetu. Vydá se tedy do chrámu Shaolinu, aby mohl být přijat jako žák mezi elitní bojovníky
