Rio de Janeiro, padesátá léta minulého století. Osmnáctiletá Eurídice a dvacetiletá Guida jsou sestry, které žijí se svými konzervativními rodiči. Klavírní zázrak Eurídice sní o studiu na prestižní vídeňské konzervatoři. Guida je však první, kdo se dostane do Evropy, neboť tam uprchne s řeckým námořníkem. Vrátí se do Ria těhotná a osamělá, o čemž Eurídice nic neví. Obě jsou rozděleny lží svého otce, léta ubíhají a kdysi nerozlučné sestry si klestí cestu životem v domnění, že si ta druhá plní svůj sen na druhém konci světa.
