Sebevražda úředníka prostřednictvím najatého vraha mohla být zdárně dokončena, nebýt modrých očí prodavačky růží. Pracovník londýnských vodáren Henri Boulanger přijde o zaměstnání a pojme plán spáchat sebevraždu. To se mu však nedaří, rozhodne se tedy najmout vraha, který by práci vykonal za něj. Smlouva je uzavřena a zbývá už jenom čekat. Mezitím se však Henri zamiluje a sebevraždu si rozmyslí. Nájemného vraha už ale nejde zastavit a nezbývá než se s milenkou schovat.
