Snímek Den, kdy se zastavila Země vypráví příběh mimozemšťana Klaatua, který jednoho dne přistane na Zemi. Hlásá příchod v míru a vyžaduje si setkání s představiteli všech států světa, před kterými hodlá přednést své poselství. Když se však dozví, že to je věc zhola neuskutečnitelná, opustí své dosavadní obydlí a vydá se do světa na vlastní pěst... Film vznikl v době rozpuku Studené války a strachu z nové hrozby- možnosti rozpoutání atomového konfliktu. Autoři snímku se v něm jasně vymezují proti dalšímu vývoji této nesmírně ničivé zbraně. Z filmu je tak cítit kritika postoje tehdejších politiků, kteří namísto mírové dohody zvolili zbrojení a udržování paranoidní atmosféry strachu před podlým nepřítelem.
