Když se rodina Primmů přestěhuje do New Yorku, jejich syn Josh se snaží zvyknout si na novou školu i přátele. Vše se změní od okamžiku, kdy Josh objeví Lylea – zpívajícího krokodýla, který miluje koupele, kaviár a dobrou hudbu – v podkroví jejich nového domova. Chlapec a krokodýl se velmi rychle zpřátelí, když ale Lyleovu existenci začne ohrožovat zlý soused pan Grumps, Primmovi se musí spojit s Lyleovým charismatickým majitelem Hectorem P. Valentim, aby ukázali světu, že rodina může vzniknout na nejneočekávanějších místech, a že na velkém zpívajícím krokodýlovi s ještě větší osobností není nic špatného.
