Ve velkoměstě zavládne panika, chaos a zoufalství. Bez zjevných příčin začnou totiž obyvatelé slepnout. Vláda okamžitě zasáhne a všechny „nakažené“ izoluje v opuštěném komplexu bývalé psychiatrické léčebny s nevyhovujícími podmínkami. Slepých přibývá a vznikají gheta, které jsou však brzy přeplněná. Samozřejmě, že zoufalou situaci slepců využívají kriminální živly, které je okrádají i o ubohé příděly jídla. Manželka lékaře, který oslepl jako jeden z prvních, má velkou výhodu v tom, že i když je izolovaná s ostatními, vidí. Rozhodne se to však zatajit a spolu se sedmi neznámými vytvoří jakousi rodinu, která se pokusí utéct. Jak se však bezbranná skupina ubrání před pouličními gangy těžkých kriminálníků, kteří už jen završují zkázu lidstva?
