Nesčetněkrát se stal příčinou vzestupu i pádu celých civilizací. Stále nám ale chybí dostatek exaktních vědeckých poznatků, abychom dokázali účinně čelit změnám klimatu... Déšť je základní zdroj sladké vody a nezbytná podmínka života na Zemi. V dějinách lidstva hrál už od pradávna významnou roli. V havajštině existuje přísloví: Když nebesa pláčou, země ožívá. Což přesně vystihuje, co pro nás déšť znamená. Dodnes součástí rituálů mnoha kultur po celém světě. Napájí jezera i přehrady tolik nezbytnou vodou, kterou dennodenně potřebuje každý z nás. Poskytuje vláhu půdě, bez něj bychom se nedočkali úrody a dobytek by neměl čím uhasit žízeň. Pro člověka je základní podmínkou přežití i rozvoje. Jenže srážky jsou v poslední době čím dál hůře předvídatelné. Je zřejmé, že bude zapotřebí náš přístup od základů změnit. Víme však vůbec, jak déšť – tento nedocenitelný zdroj – naplno využít?
