Den polske immigrant Karol Karol står uden ægteskab, job og land, da hans franske kone Dominique skiller sig fra ham efter seks måneder på grund af hans impotens. Efter at have mistet den fælles virksomhed er han tvunget til at forlade Frankrig og beder den polske udlænding Mikołaj om at smugle ham tilbage til hjemlandet.
