Marks far var psykolog og filmede ham gennem hans barndom som forsøgskanin i en række eksperimenter om frygt. Nu er Mark en ung enspænder, der arbejder som kameramand for et filmstudie. Han lokker unge håbefulde skuespillerinder til en ’screen-test’ , hvor han myrder dem, mens de bliver filmet, så han siden kan iagttage deres frygt i mødet med døden. Da naboen Helen forsøger at indlede et venskab med Mark, begynder hans verden at bryde sammen.
