Land of the Dead er et uhyggeligt billede af en moderne verden, hvor de levende døde strejfer omkring overalt, og de sidste levende forsøger at opretholde et normalt liv bag en befæstet bys mure. Men uden for byen er en hær af levende døde ved at samle sig, og imens er anarki ved at tage over inden for byens mure. Nu hvor byens overlevelse står på spil, skal en gruppe hårdføre lejesoldater forsøge at beskytte de levende fra en hær af døde.
