Allan Karlsson har levet et eksplosivt liv. Han elsker at sprænge ting i luften, og så har han - helt tilfældigt - spillet en nøglerolle i en række af verdenshistoriens vigtigste hændelser. Allan kommer på plejehjem, men det er ikke noget for ham, så på sin 100-års-fødselsdag stikker han af. Snart havner han i et nyt vildt eventyr.
