Menneskeheden slipper endelig af med Godzilla og fængsler ham i en iskold grav på Sydpolen. Alt er fredeligt, indtil forskellige monstre dukker op for at ødelægge Jordens byer. Overvældet bliver menneskeheden tilsyneladende reddet af en race af velvillige rumvæsener kendt som Xiliens. Men ikke alt er, som det ser ud til med disse bizarre besøgende. Hvis menneskeheden ønsker at overleve, må de modvilligt genoplive deres mest hadede fjende, Godzilla.
