Da en mistænkt under en narko-razzia bliver dræbt på uforklarlig vis, falder mistanken på kriminalbetjenten Logan McQueen, der allerede har en stribe klagesager bag sig. Hans makker Charles Duffy er ikke i stand til at rense ham, og da beviserne hober sig op, ender Logan bag tremmer. Efter at være løsladt mod kaution går det op for Logan, at han ikke blot er anklaget for mord, men at narkobagmanden Martin også mistænker ham for at have stjålet 190.000 dollars under razziaen. Logans eneste chance for at rense sit navn er at sætte alle kræfter ind på selv at finde den skyldige, og han starter derfor en efterforskning, der leder ham på sporet af omfattende korruption i politiets egne rækker.
