Alfred Kralik er en nydelig ung mand der arbejder i den lille gavebutik rundt om hjørnet. Han er forelsket i en kvinde han aldrig har mødt eller set eller talt med. De har i stedet gennem en periode skrevet romantiske breve til hinanden. En dag bliver Klara Novak ansat i butikken og de to kan fra starten ikke fordrage hinanden. Ikke overraskende viser Klara sig netop at være Alfreds drømmekvinde fra korrespondancen men hvad nu?
