I et sidste forsøg på at undgå personlig konkurs rejser Alan Clay til Saudi-Arabien for at præsentere en ny teknologi for landets konge. Kongen dukker aldrig op, men mødet med den fremmede kultur gør dybt indtryk på Alan.
