Kenji er din typiske teenage misfit. Han er god til matematik, dårlig med piger, og tilbringer det meste af sin tid ude at hænge ud i den almægtige online community kaldet OZ. Hans andet liv er det eneste liv, han har - indtil pigen i hans drømme, Natsuki, kaprer ham for en hovedrolle som en falsk forlovede på hendes familiesammenføring. Ting kun får fremmed derfra. En sen nat e-mail med et kryptisk matematisk gåde fører til udløsning af en slyngelstat AI opsat på at bruge den virtuelle verden af OZ at ødelægge den virkelige verden. Som Armageddon væve i horisonten, Kenji og hans nye "familie" afsat deres forskelle og band sammen for at redde verdens de bebor i denne "nær-perfekt blanding af social satire og science fiction."
