Allan er lænket til en kørestol efter en alvorlig ulykke. Han er fuldstændig afhængig an andres hjælp. Da beslutter hans gode ven Geoffrey sig for at hjælpe. Han hugger en abe fra et laboratorium! Aben, Ella, bliver snart Allans uundværlige forlængede arm. Men Ella er ikke en almindelig abe. Hun kommer fra et eksperiment, hvor der blev sprøjtet menneskehjerne ind i aber. Ella kan nærmest fortolke Allans følelser og reagere på dem - men stadig med sit dyreinstinkt i behold.
