Alex (Adam Scott) og Emily (Taylor Schilling) er netop flyttet til Los Angeles med deres søn. De kender ikke rigtig nogen, de føler sig lidt isoleret og ægteskabet er ikke i tip-top stand. En dag møder de Kurt (Jason Schwartzman) på en legeplads. Hans søn kommer godt ud af det med deres søn, så Kurt invitere parret til middag, hvor de også mødes hans kone Charlotte (Judith Godreche).
