I filmen ’Elle’ forandres forretningskvinden Michéles liv sig for altid, da hun overfaldes og voldtages i sit eget hjem.
Hun melder det ikke til politiet, men går i stedet selv i gang med at finde frem til gerningsmanden, som hun er overbevist om er en person fra egen omgangskreds.
Både Michéle og hendes voldsmand trækkes ind i et besynderligt og nervepirrende spil, der hvert øjeblik kan ende i en katastrofe.
