Bagdad Café er historien om et klassisk kultursammenstød mellem en række ærke-amerikanere og en midaldrende tysk kvinde, som de pludselig står ansigt til ansigt med. Det, der gør Bagdad Café til noget særligt, er filmens held til at beskrive den lille ørkenflække og dens skæve eksistenser. Ud over Marianne Sägebrecht i hovedrollen, kan man også nyde den mere end 70-årige Jack Palance, som mange måske vil genkende fra utallige westerns.
