Dr. Werner har viet sit liv til sin lægepraksis på landet, hvor han har arbejdet de sidste 30 år. Da han finder ud af, at han er alvorligt syg, bliver han nødt til at finde en assistent, så han ansætter Natalie, en ung kvinde fra hospitalet. Men kan hun tilpasse sig det nye liv på landet, og kan hun erstatte lægen, der ser sig selv som uerstattelig?
