Kort inden jul kører en tankvogn galt i en befærdet tunnel i de iskolde norske bjerge. Den bryder i brand, og tunnelen fyldes med dødbringende røg. En snestorm raser udenfor, mens redningsmanden Thorbjørn og hans kollegaer kæmper for at nå frem til ulykkesstedet. Pludseligt finder han ud af, at hans datter Elise er fanget i tunnelen. Inspireret af virkelige hændelser.
