Instruktøren og skuespilleren Yasuke Kafuku plejer et på én gang platonisk og lidenskabeligt forhold til sin hustru gennem 20 år, manuskriptforfatteren Oto. De udklækker idéer, mens de har sex eller kører ture i bilen, som er mere end bare et transportmiddel for parret. Men under den harmoniske overflade ulmer konflikterne, og en chokerende hændelse bliver springbrættet for Ryûsuke Hamaguchis kontemplative og lavmælt følsomme road trip.
