Les Aventures de Rabbi Jacob er kendt som komedien, der trækker flest grin ud af sit publikum pr. minut, og betragtes af mange som Louis de Funès' bedste film. Denne holdning delte Golden Globe-juryen, da de nominerede filmen som "Bedste udenlandske film" - en ellers sjælden ære for en komedie. Legendariske Gérard Oury styrer med sikker hånd denne hysteriske historie, hvor vores spradebasse spiller den racistiske direktør Victor Pivert. På vej mod sin datters bryllup kidnappes han af en arabisk guerillaleder på flugt, og for ikke at blive dræbt må de stjæle tøj og identitet fra to berømte rabbinere. Jaget af terrorister, politi og de ægte rabbinere, skrues tempoet op i en grad, så mavemusklerne er sikre på at blive strammet op i latterkramper.
