”Lykkelige omstændigheder” følger kæresteparret Nicolas og Barbara gennem deres forholds op- og nedture. Fra den store forelskelse til akut søvnunderskud, fra den totale frihed til ansvaret som mor og far, fra hed sex til et forhold, man pludselig skal kæmpe for at få til at fungere.
