'What's Love Got to Do with It?' er en multikulturel romantisk komedie, som følger dokumentarskaberen Zoe, der begynder at filme sin gode ven og nabo Kazim, der er på vej ind i et arrangeret ægteskab med en pakistansk kvinde udvalgt af hans forældre. Lily James (Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, Cinderella) spiller Zoe, som selv jagter kærligheden i en verden af dating, der hidtil kun har ført til dårlige jokes og sjove anekdoter, hvilket er til stor fortrydelse for hendes bedrevidende mor, der spilles af Emma Thompson.
