Hitchcocks mesterlige thriller, der trods sin alder er et vandtæt skoleeksempel på, hvordan en spændende historie skal skrues sammen, kan med næsten lige så god ret katalogiseres som en fremragende komedie. Den er på en og samme tid lun og herlig, så man klukker, og sindssygt spændende fra først til sidst. En ældre kvinde forsvinder under en togrejse, men et vidne har set hende blive bortført. Problemet er bare, at ingen vil tro på, hvad vidnet siger.
