Han flytter ind i en lille lejlighed i New Yorks Lower East Side-kvarter, hvor han deler filosofiske samtaler med sin alkoholiske forfatternabo, bliver forelsket, og så opdager han, at hans far, der er en succesfuld forlagsredaktør, har en affære.
