Amanda Price er træt af sit bankjob og sin bøvede kæreste. Hun drømmer om romantik og gammeldags kurmageri som i Jane Austens 1800-tals-klassiker 'Stolthed og fordom'. Amandas drøm bliver til virkelighed, da hun på forunderlig vis bytter plads med bogens heltinde, Elizabeth Bennet. Pludselig spiller Amanda selv en hovedrolle i sin yndlingsroman. Men hendes blotte tilstedeværelse får bogens personer til at forelske sig i de forkerte. Hvordan kan hun forhindre, at den berømte kærlighedshistorie kører helt af sporet?
