I historien er Kagami Taiga netop begyndt på Seirin High School, da han møder Kuroko Tetsuya fra skolens basketballhold. Kuroko er tilfældigvis det skyggefulde sjette medlem af det legendariske Generation of Miracles basketballhold. Sammen sigter Kagami og Kuroko mod at føre deres hold til inter-high school mesterskabet – mod Kurokos tidligere holdkammerater.
