Der Film erzählt die Geschichte von William Fence CEO und Gründer der Ciromsoft. Seine Firma dominiert seit Jahren die weltweite Computerindustrie. Sein Leben ist für ihn langweilig geworden. Ich gewinne einfach immer , beklagt er. Die Entführung seiner Ehefrau verändert alles. Nun muss er ein Online Videogame Namens Liberation Force Earth spielen, ein Spiel, das seine Company geschaffen hat und das er innerhalb von 8 Stunden gewinnen muss, wenn er seine Frau jemals lebend wiedersehen möchte. Unglücklicherweise hat William noch nie ein Videogame gespielt. Deshalb entschließt er sich ein kleines Team professioneller Spieler, die Armchair Combat Professionals aus der ganzen Welt mit dieser Aufgabe zu betrauen.
