Hatsuki ist Highschool-Schülerin und lebt zusammen mit ihrer Klassenkameradin Hatsumi, in die sie sich verliebt hat. An Hatsumis sechzehnten Geburtstag wird sie von einem gleißenden grünen Licht eingehüllt und verschwindet vor den Augen von Hatsuki. Ihr gelingt es, mit der Hilfe eines gelben, fetten kükenähnlichen Ding, Hatsumi zu folgen. Sie landet an einem Platz, der »Die große Bücherei« genannt wird. Die Suche nach Hatsukis großer Liebe beginnt mit der Reise von Buch zu Buch.
