Saku Ooyagi kehrt nach sieben Jahren in seine Heimatstadt zurück und trifft dort auf seine Kindheitsfreundin, die stürmische Mihoshi Akeno. Ihr Wiedersehen verläuft allerdings alles andere als fröhlich, ist doch seine letzte Erinnerung an sie, wie sie von einem Baum fällt und er ihr nachspringt, um sie zu retten. Ungeachtet dieses Vorfalls setzt Mihoshi alles daran, ihre alte Freundschaft fortzusetzen und nötigt Saku dazu ihrem Astronomieklub beizutreten.
